Why cannot I get a single room?
There are thousands of people who want to go skiing to the Alps that do not want to share a room with a stranger or even someone who might be a friend. Maybe they and their partners have a separate holiday and the main holiday is a family one. Perhaps their partner has tried skiing and hates it. Whatever the reasons for wanting a room on one’s own, it is virtually impossible to find one without paying an extortionate price, in other words usually double the cost.
The reasons given by the ski holiday specialist is that it revolves around package ski holidays, that for years have offered tremendous value for money, due to the guarantees that they could give airlines and hoteliers to fill their planes and rooms during what was once a very slack period for them. Chalet ski holidays have become very popular with the “Brits” and chalets have been purpose built, or buildings converted to chalets with all double rooms or sometimes triple and with this kind of all in skiing holiday, it is easy to see why they would charge for two people, but this cannot be the case for hotel skiing holidays.
