What is cruise cuisine like?

Anyone who thought they would be getting tired of the food on a cruise, after two weeks at sea should think again. Every cruise holiday company offers some of the most eclectic ranges of cuisine you could ever choose from.

What has become increasingly popular on cruises, is employing the skills of a celebrity chef to add to the menu. Many of the biggest names in culinary arts have opened restaurants on cruise ships and you can be certain that their exquisite creations will taste every bit as good at sea as they do on land.

P&O are easily the best choice for food lovers, as the company has not one, but two, high-class chefs who have given their names to their ships’ restaurants. Famous TV chef, Gary Rhodes, has opened an eatery based on his highly successful ‘Rhodes 24’ in London, on both the Arcadia and Oceania. Another big name and one that is synonymous with “Hell’s Kitchen”, is Marco Pierre White, who was the youngest ever UK chef to receive three Michelin stars. His “White Room” restaurant can be found on board P&O’s Ventura, while the Aurora and Oceana also have eateries that offer his delectable cuisine.

Elsewhere, Thomson Cruises boast the Italian master, Aldo Zilli, whose ‘Zilli’ restaurants are spreading like wildfire. Of course, the cuisine definitely sticks to an Italian theme, but it has proven to a big hit with cruisers and it is rumoured that he plans to move onto other ships in the Thomson fleet.
