Yellowstone National Park is one of North America’s most spectacular geographical regions. Best known for its natural wonders and its wildlife, Yellowstone is sure to fascinate and inspire each and every visitor who ventures into the park.
Covering an area of over 3,000 square miles, the park is geographically diverse with lakes, rivers, canyons and mountain ranges. However, Yellowstone is best known for its geysers, mud pots, and hot springs. Tourists come from all over the world to see the Old Faithful geyser, whose eruptions occur, on average, every 90 minutes. The geyser shoots boiling water over 100 feet into the air, while the more erratic Steamboat geyser reaches even greater heights.
The park is also home to an incredible range of wildlife. The forests and grasslands of Yellowstone National Park supports hundreds of different species of mammals, reptiles, fish and birds. With grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk roaming throughout the stunning landscape, nature lovers will be enthralled.
Many activities can be pursued within the park, with something to entertain both children and adults alike. Hiking and camping are hugely popular, providing an ideal escape for solo adventurers or families. The area is also perfect for boating and fishing. Roads lead to most of the park’s major attractions but guided tours are recommended in the winter as the area’s vastness makes it easy to get lost.
Yellowstone is located in the northwest of Wyoming, extending slightly into Montana and Idaho. The park is open every day of the year but check conditions before arriving. The cities of Jackson, Cody and Bozeman (Montana) are all located within 75 miles of the park.
