England – a perfect getaway for the whole family

In a place full of vibrant city life, quiet rural spaces, culture, history, and rich tradition it can be difficult to know where to begin your English holiday.  But rest assured there’s something for everyone in this beautiful country.

The first stop on most cheap flights to England is, of course, London.  This, Europe’s largest city, is a diverse blend of influences from all over the world.  London’s attractions are just too many to list here but be sure to see Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedral.

For classic country scenery complete with picturesque villages and antique shops everywhere you turn, spend some time in The Cotswolds.  In the north, the Yorkshire Moors and Dales also offer a pleasant rural respite.

In the Lake District you’ll find England’s highest mountains.  The views are amazing, with numerous picturesque lakes and plenty of great hiking and climbing.

The city of Bath in the southwest is home to impressive Georgian architecture and one of the world’s most superbly preserved Roman bathhouses.  This is one English city you don’t want to miss.

History buffs will appreciate the well-kept colleges, stunning architecture, and the ancient universities at Oxford and Cambridge.  There’s also the Roman-era Hadrian’s Wall, a World Heritage Site, as well as the cathedral and university in Durham, all in the northeast of the country.  Still in the north, the city of York is rich in Viking and medieval heritage.  In the southeast of England the city of Canterbury has one of Europe’s most beautiful cathedrals.  When in the Midlands make time to visit the romantic and imposing site of Warwick Castle.

If you are a music lover, flights to Manchester or London put you in the middle of some of the best available music venues in Europe.  Book seats at the Albert Hall for a concert; visit Ronnie Scott’s Club for the latest jazz sounds – both venues being in London.  Also don’t miss the capital’s theatre land for the best in both musical theatre and drama. From the Beatle’s legacy in Liverpool to the emerging contemporary music scene in Bristol, you’re sure to find something to keep your fingers snapping.

Don’t hesitate, plan to take a flight to England and enjoy a great holiday.
